| Dober and Willows win the K2 1000M at World Cup #2 |
Richard Dober from Trois Rivieres,QC and Andrew Willows from Lasalle, QC won the K2 1000M race today in Duisburg, Germany, at the second world cup of the season. This is the third medal in as many races and a second gold medal for the 2 Canadian athletes. They struck gold in the 200M and won bronze in the 500M, last week in Hungary.

They were 3 seconds behind the winning boat with only 250M to the finish but achieved the unachievable by winning with 2/10 of a second. It is a great accomplishment since although they are the best Canadian team at the 1000M, it is not their specialty.
Tomorrow is the 500M race and the hopes are great.

| Dober and Willows win 2 world cup medals and qualify for the Olympics |
Montréal, 7 juin 2008 (k2Speed.ca) – Kayakers Richard Dober and Andrew Willows won 2 medals today at the Szeged world cups (Hungary). Their first medal was in the K2 500M, in which they earned the bronze medal. They did even better in the 200M as they won the gold medal, stepping twice on the podium in an hour and a half.
It was a crucial event for Dober and Willows as they had to be the best canadian team in order to earn their spot on the Canadian Team for the Olympics that will be held in Beijing this summer, which they achieved! Not only that but after winning the Pan American games it is another very good performance to see heading to Beijing.
The next world cup is in Germany next week so be sure to be back to follow Richard's and Andrew's journey to the Olympics. |
